This is the last anaysis of the opening of a movie that i would do.
The first thing that we see in the opening scene of the movie is the title for new line cinema which is also the company that we wanted to create the movie. This shows us that new line cinema are highly popular when it come to making a movie.
The music played during over the opening credits is very dark and gives a negative atmosphere to the opening of the movie, this indicates that something bad is going to happen. Also the type of music that is played is a code for the genre of the music. In this case the music sounds really cold and devilish.
Just before we see the thunder the music intensifies and gets louder slowly, this builds up the tension, as if something big is following. As i mentioned during the opening scene there is a thunder storm and it is also raining. This is a code for the horror genre because bad things always happen in movies when it is nights, because it is known to not be safe. And having the rain gives the opening a cold feeling about it.
Then there is a close up on the rain falling on the window. The whole opening two minutes of the film is used to set the scene. It uses both medium and close up shots to set the location of the film.
The opening two minutes uses both diegetic and non diegetic sound. There dark orchestral music played in the opening of the movie. The music is an instrumental meaning there are no lyrics, this gives the movie the needed fright factor because although there is sound is still makes the scene feel isolated and silent even though there is sound.
The diegetic sound in the opening two minutes is exxagerated like when the fan is blowing. The reason for diegetic sound is to enfasise the realism of the movie. This is so that the audience can relate to it.
The lighting in the opening two minutes is very dark, this is one of the most easily identified code for the horror genre because, people associate the night with evil and bad things happening which is the main theme of a typical horror film.
We want to incoperate dark lighting into our opening of a movie, because i think that this makes it easier for the audience to identify what genre the movie is, also it sets the scene early on in the movie and also creates the needed tension that grabs the audiences attention.
The camera is moving very slow in the opening scene which in this case is done well because it builds up the needed suspense, and creates a lot of tension in the scene. In the glimpse that we see of a person in this scene is someones hand throwing a book down, this doesn't give the audience closure because we are not shown who's hand it is.
In conclusion, i think that the opening two minutes of final destination just builds up the tension and also creates the scene for us, as if the whole two minutes is establishing. I dont think that we want to use the opening two minutes of just showing objects because in some cases it could be affective by grabbing the audiences attention because the are curious to see what happens next but then it could also bore the audience. I dont think that final destination should have used whole two minutes building up the scene.
