I will be deconstructing the movie 13 ghosts :D
The first thing we see is the the warner bro clip which identifies to us which company created the movie. Warner Bros is similar to the company New line cinema because they are both established companies in the media industry.
Afer the warner bros clip there is another clip that shows us another company who had an imput in the making of the movie, which is dark castle entertainment. The first sound that we hear after these two clips are played is thunder. This is a code for horror movies, because rain and thunder is normally associated with night, and most horror films occur during the evening which most people believe bad things happen at night. Also the thunder creates that cold , dark, pessimistic atmosphere to the movie.
The first shot of the actual movie that we get, is a low angle shot looking up at a car and peices of things. Having the first shot as a low angle shot already gives the viewer a sense of there being trouble and that the viewer is an vulnerable position. Also the first shot is very dark. This makes it hard to have a clear view of what the establishing shot is. This gives an ery feeling to the movie, because it keeps the audience in complete darkness so they are unable to know what is happening.
The sound in the opening scene of the movie is both diegetic and also non diegetic. The non diegetic music is paralell to the moving image because it is very dark and ery, and is played quietly in the background making it seem spooky.
The non diegetic music is exxagerated, meaning they have made it louder so it can be heard more. Such as when a peice of paper is flapping in the air. Also the wind is made louder so that i can seem heavier, which is parrallel to the image of the paper flowing in the air, because it looks as if the paper is flowing by a strong wind.
From the establishing shot there is a fade in of the next shot, which is of a truck entering. The shot of the truck entering has been made much slower, this creates tension, and also builds up suspense, because everything is moving slow in the movie, it is a code for the movie being a horror. It gives the negative vibe, because most people tend to think its moving slow to reach the climax of something.
The truck then smashes into a fence and creates sparks. From that shot the camera then switches to a high angle shot. This is so that the audience can see the extent of the damages that have been made. The shots then begin to speed up, this allows the audience to know that they have reached the place in which all the action is going to take place.
As well as the paste of the shots increasing also the sound seems to be increasing in sound which is building up the suspense and is a code to show that some form action is going to take place very soon. The paste of the shots then begin to slow back down again which is building up the tension and suspense
At the end of the opening two minutes its has a establishing shot. I think the reason why it is used again is because this time the audience will be able to know what the scene looks like.
